Starting a candle project can feel like a big step, especially if you have never done anything like this before. Most of our clients come to us with an idea rather than a finished plan, and part of our role is to help shape that into something that works both creatively and commercially.
Whether you are looking for simple white label candles or something far more bespoke, we will guide you through the process in a clear, approachable and realistic way.
At NV, we believe the best results come from being creatively ambitious but commercially practical.
Every project starts with a conversation
Most projects begin with an email or phone call so we can understand a little more about what you are hoping to create.
Some clients arrive with a very clear vision, while others simply know the sort of feeling, customer or price point they have in mind. Both are completely fine.
We will usually discuss:
Phone calls are often the easiest way to explore ideas properly and answer questions as they arise, but we are equally happy to work via email if preferred.
Exploring fragrance
Fragrance is often the most exciting part of the process. The same scent can feel completely different depending on how it is named, described and presented within a brand.
An earthy, woody fragrance, for example, might feel calming and spa-like in one range, while the very same fragrance could feel rich, atmospheric or quietly luxurious in another.
Because of this, we encourage clients to think not just about fragrance notes, but about the mood and identity they want their products to create.
We offer a curated library of both synthetic and essential oil fragrances, and fragrance sample packs are available to help you explore different scent directions and discover what feels right for your range.
Interestingly, clients often discover fragrances they would never have originally chosen, which is why we prefer to offer a broader selection rather than narrowing things down too quickly.
Fragrance sample packs are charged at a small fee to cover materials and postage and are usually dispatched within around a week.

Shaping the product
Once we understand the direction of your range, we can begin refining the details.
This might include:
Not every project needs fully bespoke elements, and part of our role is helping you understand where customisation adds value and where simpler solutions may work more effectively.
For example, fully bespoke printed packaging can become expensive at lower quantities, so many clients choose carefully selected stock packaging enhanced with custom labels or wraps instead.

Branding, artwork and presentation
Branding and presentation play a huge part in how a candle range feels to your customer.
Some clients already have artwork ready to go, while others need more support developing labels, layouts or packaging designs.
Because branding and packaging are such an important part of the final product, we can also assist with artwork and design support where required.
We will always advise on what is likely to work best visually, practically and commercially for your type of project.

Samples, testing and approvals
Not every project requires physical product samples, and many clients are happy to work from dimensions, visuals and material guidance.
However, samples and mock-ups can absolutely be arranged where appropriate, particularly for more bespoke or detail-focused projects.
Some fragrance and vessel combinations may also require additional testing to ensure the best possible burn performance and scent throw, particularly where fragrances are being used in different container sizes than usual.
Where testing or sampling is recommended, we will always explain this clearly as part of the process.

Production and lead times
Once everything has been approved, production can begin.
Lead times vary depending on:
As a very rough guide, most projects fall somewhere within a 4–8 week timeframe, although this can vary significantly.
Christmas production tends to book particularly early, especially for retail clients, so we always recommend allowing as much time as possible for seasonal launches.
If you are working towards a specific deadline, we will always do our best to recommend suitable options and realistic timelines from the beginning.
A note on quantities and budgets
One of the biggest misconceptions around bespoke candles is that highly customised products can be produced economically in very small quantities.
In reality, the more variations involved, such as multiple fragrances, designs or packaging formats, the more expensive smaller runs can become.
Part of our role is helping you balance your ideas, budget and quantities in a way that creates a product that feels considered, achievable and commercially sensible.
There is no pressure to know all of this before getting in touch. That is exactly what we are here to help with.
Whether you already have a clear concept or are simply exploring the possibility of creating your own candle range, we would love to hear from you.
No jargon, no pressure and no expectation that you should already know how everything works.
